Open a savings account and deposit small amounts regularly. Your savings earn an interest of 4.50% per annum. Watch it grow into large sums over a period of time which can come in handy in times of need. Ideal for individuals, housewives, family members, businessmen etc.

ELIGIBILITY

Savings Deposit Account can be opened by

  • Individual, either or survivor, jointly with other individuals, any one or survivor.
  • No Savings Deposit Account will ordinarily be opened in the names of associations, Clubs, Societies and Non-profit making Institutions. However, only in exceptional cases taking into consideration the nature of savings, the Bank may approve opening of Saving Deposit Account in the names of Associations, Clubs, and Societies etc.
  • Business organizations and government departments will be permitted to open only staff security deposits and staff welfare accounts under savings deposit product

INTEREST RATE

  • The prevailing rate of interest on Savings Deposit Account is 4.50% per annum, calculated on daily product basis.
  • No upper limit on account balance.
  • The interest would be paid irrespective of number of withdrawals.

DORMANT ACCOUNT

Savings Deposit Accounts are treated as dormant in case there is no operations i.e. debit or credit entry for 1 Year or more. Manual deposit will have to be made in order to activate the account.

CHEQUE BOOKS

To enable customers to withdraw money or make payments to third parties, the Bank supplies Cheque books containing printed cheque leaves to customers except to thumb impression account holders. Cheques should be kept under lock and key and the bank should be informed in case of theft or misplacement.

Bounced Cheque

As per the public notification issued by RMA the issuance of cheques with insufficient balance in the account is a criminal offence, punishable as per the Negotiable Instruments Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan 2000 and the Penal Code of Bhutan 2011.

STANDING INSTRUCTIONS (SI)

SI refers to the instruction given by customers to the Bank to undertake certain transactions weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or annually on their behalf. However, customers should make sure that their account has sufficient balance to carry out the instructions. No charge/additional charge will be made for noting standing instructions(SI). Our usual charges while undertaking SI, like exchange on drafts, postage etc. would however, be recovered from the account along with the amount remitted or transferred.

ACCOUNT CLOSING

A depositor wishing to close his account can do so by surrendering the passbook and unused cheque leaves along with a written application to the Bank.
